How Often Should Your Roof be Inspected?

November 1, 2021

According to Linkedin, roofing replacements make up around 94% of total North American roofing projects, and buildings that are between 25-30 years old will frequently need repairs and replacements. However, knowing when your roof needs repairs or to be replaced can be difficult if you don't have regular roof inspections. To help you understand just how often you should have your roof inspected, here are some things to keep in mind.

Twice A Year

It's usually recommended by professional roofers that you have at least two roof inspections every year. Once in the spring and once in the fall. This is to ensure that there isn't any damage from winter that could get worse during summer storms and to ensure that summer storms haven't caused any damage that could get worse during the winter.

While two may seem like too much, it's worth considering that minor damage from winter or summer storms can quickly become worse during inclement weather, and even small damage can cause large amounts of interior water damage if it isn't fixed quickly enough. Minor damage can also create openings where pests can infiltrate your attic, which can result in additional damage, health problems, and exterminator costs.

After Strong Storms

If you are in an area that is prone to strong storms, it can also be beneficial to seek roof inspections after a particularly strong storm. While not every thunderstorm will cause damage, if you've experienced very high winds and hail, it's worth calling a roofing company to come and ensure that there isn't any damage that you can't see from the ground.

Older Roofs

If you haven't had a roof inspection lately but your roof is getting older, you should consider starting to have regular inspections to ensure that your aging roof isn't failing. The older a roof is, the more likely it is to be damaged during storms and from natural weathering. If your roof is aging and you notice missing or cracked shingles, you're not going to want to wait until you start seeing damage inside your home.

Roofing inspections are highly important for maintaining the integrity of your roof. If you haven't had your roof inspected this fall, now is the time to call a roofing company to ensure that your roof doesn't have any damage that could potentially cause damage to your home this winter.
