4 Questions to Ask Your Local Roofers

May 16, 2023

We spend a lot of money to keep our homes in good condition. According to the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Americans spend $400 billion every year on home remodeling expenses. A significant chunk of that $400 billion is spent on roof repair and replacement projects as it's one of the most important parts of a home. Here are a few questions you should ask your local roofers before you start your roofing project.

1. What Materials Do You Offer?

You'll want to ensure your local roofers carry the roofing material you need. If you're getting simple repairs, then you'll need whatever material is currently on your roof. If you're getting a replacement, then you may either want to stick with the current material or opt for a new one. Whichever the case may be, be sure that the roofing contractor you hire both carries and has experience with the type of roof you want.

2. What Kind of Experience Do You Have?

You'll also want a roofer who has experience. A good rule of thumb is to look for a company that's been around for at least 10 years, but 15, 20, or 30 is even better. You'll also want to ask if they have experience with your type of roofing. Installing a flat roof requires a different set of tools and skills than a traditional residential roof, and while many companies have experience with both, it's always best to double-check.

3. Do You Offer Warranties?

Warranties are a must when it comes to your roof, especially if it's new. If the final product isn't up to par, or if you're in need of repairs very shortly after the installation, you want to make sure that you're protected. The last thing you need is to pay twice for your new roof.

4. Can You Provide References or Testimonials?

The best way to gauge a roofer's quality of work and professionalism is by taking a look at what they did for previous clients. Most reputable roofers will have a list of references ready, but you could also try looking online. Previous clients will be able to tell you if they were unsatisfied with any aspect of the work, or what they thought made the company great to work with.
